Destroyed by
Jesus!
I wonder have you a nickname? Some nicknames are insulting, but
others tell you something about the person. For example, I am
sometimes called "the Bible man" because I love teaching about God
by telling stories from the Bible.
In the Bible God made Himself known by many different names such as
"the Saviour", or "the Creator", or the great "I am". Another name
He makes Himself known as is "the Rock". 1*. - the One who is very strong and
secure, our refuge and salvation. God the Rock is further described
as the "cornerstone" or "capstone" - that key stone that is
essential to support or hold a building together. 2*.
It is not surprising to find these names used by God are also
applied to Jesus in the Bible, because Jesus is God - God
the Son. 3*.
Jesus is the One you must rest you faith and confidence in for
Salvation and security. Peter knew Jesus was the only Rock, and
said this about Him - "Salvation is found in no-one else, for there
is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be
saved."! 4*.
Most people and most religions reject Jesus as being the
only Rock of Salvation, and want to replace Him with someone
or something else! Any person or thing that takes the place of
Christ is an "anti-Christ" - "anti" means in place of. The Bible
warns us that "many antichrists have come." 5*.
Throughout the Bible it was clearly foretold that the Christ would
be rejected, even by the very people He came to live among!
Jesus had this to say about His rejection - "The Stone the builders
rejected has become the Capstone?"' 6*.
Jesus, the Rock, was being rejected by the religious people around
Him. Nevertheless He would still be the all-important "capstone"
whom they would need to turn to and depend on if they were going to
be saved. Jesus went on to warn them that, "Everyone who falls on
that Stone will be broken to pieces"! 7*.
Many fall against Jesus the Rock! They refuse or ignore the
teaching that Jesus is the only Priest and Saviour. They are
tripped up into letting someone else bless them and forgive their
sins! Instead of trusting in Jesus they are falling AGAINST Him and
they "will be broken in pieces"! Instead of being saved by
Jesus they will be destroyed by Jesus!
Jesus, the Rock, also spoke of their destruction in another way
when He said those on whom He falls "will be crushed."
7*.
"The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to
arrest Jesus immediately, because they knew He had spoken this
parable against them." 8*.
How very foolish those are who think they can disagree with God and
get away with it! It will not only be individuals that Jesus will
"fall on" in judgment, but also on nations and religions.
9*.
Don't resist Jesus, the Rock, as those we read of in Luke's
Gospel chapter 20, verses 17-19. Instead build on the Rock by
obeying Jesus' wonderful message and trusting Him as your only
Priest and Saviour. 10*. Do this and you will be saved by
Jesus!
