Life after
death!
Is there life after death? Some people don't think so, and some
don't want to think so! They prefer to believe, "Let us eat,
and drink, for tomorrow we die." 1*.
People come up with many different arguments for not believing what
God has said about the final judgment and life after death. 2*.
At the time when Jesus was on earth a religious group called the
Sadducees thought they could prove Jesus' teaching about the
resurrection to be wrong. They said, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us
that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the
man must marry the widow and have children for his brother. Now
there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died
childless. The second and then the third married her, and in the
same way the seven died, leaving no children. Finally, the woman
died too. Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be,
since the seven were married to her?" 3*.
I'm sure people laughed at the thought of a resurrection where this
woman would have seven husbands! People still like to make fun of
the teachings of God's Word about the judgment and Heaven and Hell.
They want you just to laugh it off instead of taking God seriously!
4*.
Jesus replied, "The people of this age marry and are given in
marriage. But those who are considered worthy of taking part in
that age and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry
nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are
like the angels. They are God's children, since they are children
of the resurrection." 5*.
The Sadducees had no answer! You see, Jesus IS the truth.
6*. Jesus told them,
"You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the
power of God." 7*.
Using the Scriptures Jesus showed them that Moses believed in the
resurrection of the dead. Moses had called the Lord "`the God of
Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'. He is not the
God of the dead, but of the living, for to Him all are alive." Some
of the teachers of the law responded, "Well said, teacher!"
8*.
Are you impressed by the teachings of Jesus Christ the Son of God?
Jesus did not teach that the resurrection to eternal Life was for
everyone. Remember what He said - "those who are considered
worthy of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the
dead." 5*. Did
Jesus ever say who would be worthy? Of course He did! Jesus
promised to give Eternal Life to all who would trust in Him - He is
the Saviour God sent for the world. 9*.
Those who refuse to believe in the Eternal Life that Jesus alone
can give will be refused by God and will be lost forever in a state
of eternal punishment. 10*.
I hope you will put your faith in the words and power of Jesus
Christ to forgive and save you.
