Have you ever heard something that you could not believe
because you thought it was too good to be true? Would you be as
hard to convince as these people who were gathered together to
mourn the death of their great Friend, Jesus. They had heard from
different people that Jesus was alive again, "but they did
not believe them"! 1*.
Suddenly "Jesus Himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace
be with you.' They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw
a ghost. He said to them, ‘Why are you troubled, and why do doubts
rise in your minds? Look at My hands and My feet. It is I Myself!
Touch Me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see
I have.'
"And while they still did not believe it because of joy and
amazement, He asked them, ‘Do you have anything here to eat?' They
gave Him a piece of broiled fish, and He took it and ate it."
2*.
How was Jesus going to convince them He really was their Friend
back from the dead?
He would get them to remember His words to them before all this
happened, and also the prophecies of the Scriptures. 3*.
He said, "This is what I told you while I was still with you:
Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the
Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms." 4*.
Was Jesus not taking a very big risk by saying that "everything"
written about Him in the Bible hundreds of years earlier would come
true? If there was one mistake in what was written,
or if Jesus missed out in fulfilling one detail of
all that was said; then Jesus would be proved false!
But Jesus knew that "all Scripture is God-breathed". God has spoken the Bible message! It "never had
its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were
carried along by the Holy Spirit." 5*.
It is never a risk to put your trust in the Word
of God - the Holy Bible!
But make sure that what you believe is in the Bible. For
example, many believe that God will forgive everyone, and will turn
no-one into Hell. But God has warned in His Word that many
will be turned into Hell! 6*.
Jesus reminded those unbelieving disciples about some of the things
that had been written: "The Christ will suffer and rise from the
dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will
be preached in His name to all nations ..." 7*.
Because Jesus died for us and rose again, just as the Bible had
said, He alone is able to save you and bring you to God.
8*. Only by
"repentance" and faith 9*. can you be saved from Hell. Will YOU turn away
from your sin and from all other hopes of forgiveness and, in
faith, call on Jesus, to forgive and save you NOW. You will not
have the peace He offers until you do!
Don't you hesitate to believe that Jesus died and rose again to be
YOUR Saviour.10*.
Read in Luke chapter 24, verses 36-47about those disciples who were
so hard to convince.
