When would a person in darkness not want a light? When he is
doing wrong and wants the darkness to hide him! 1*. Another person who would not want a
light in the darkness is a blind person.
Light is only useful if you have eyesight, and if your eyes are
open! "Your eye is the lamp of your body." 2*.
God has given a special "light" for His true children to live by.
The person who loves and trusts God has this to say about God's
Word, the Holy Bible: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light
to my path." 3*. The
Bible gives the light and truth that leads and teaches those who
trust in God.
Jesus said "No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it
will be hidden." 4*.
Why did He say something so simple? Maybe because of what people
often do to His Word, the Bible. Although many know about the Bible
it is usually put aside and neglected! People generally do not want
to live by the light of its teachings.
Those who hide the light of God's Word from their eyes are choosing
to walk and live in the "darkness" of sin. God says that mankind is
by nature in the darkness of sin. 5*.
The "Light" that shines out most clearly from the Holy Bible is, of
course, the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I am the Light of the
world, he who follows Me will not walk in darkness but will have
the light of Life." 6*. As surely as a light can put away darkness, so
Jesus Christ is able to put away sin because He sacrificed Himself
for our sin. 7*.
Will you trust Him as your Priest and Saviour?
Those who truly trust in Jesus will read from the Bible often
wanting to be lead by the light and truth of Jesus and His Word.
8*.
But those who close their eyes to the wonderful "light" and truth
of God's Word will stumble into many errors. 9*. For example; what happens people
who refuse the true light that reveals that God offers
forgiveness only through faith in Jesus? They will be found
grasping at other things in their darkness. They stumble on in
their sin, maybe thinking they have found light and help in their
sacraments, or in the words and actions of men, or in their good
works!
Open your eyes to the Word of God, and you will know that
you must trust in Jesus to be your only Priest and Saviour? Your
whole body will then be "full of
light" and you will delight to "walk in the light as He is
in the light." Then you will look for, and enjoy, fellowship with
those who also walk in the light and truth of God's Word.
10*. Jesus gives
this warning in Luke chapter 11, verses 33-36: "See to it, then,
that the light within you is not darkness. Your eye is the lamp of
your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is
full of light. But when they are bad,
your body also is full of darkness." You will no longer take
pleasure and delight in the sinful things of "darkness".
