God's angry
today!
In this story God gives a forecast for us today that should be
taken seriously. Not like in Noah's day when the people took no
notice of God's flood warnings and just went on "eating, drinking,
marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the
ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all." Jesus warns us
that "just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the
days of the Son of Man." 1*.
The very same things that made God so very angry in Noah's day are
increasing in our day: wickedness, violence, immorality, corruption
and evil thoughts everywhere upon the earth. 2*.
If God was angry with such things in the days of Noah, then surely
God's angry today when these same
things are everywhere around us. 3*.
Although God was so very angry with such sinful behaviour, yet in
His love, He gave ample and clear warning of the judgment He was
planning to send against their sin.
Today when people are told of the anger and judgment of God against
their sins they just laugh it off, and go on doing worse and
worse things!
Jesus reminds us, "It was the same in the days of Lot." This was
another time when sinfulness stirred God to act in judgment. At
that time a sin that had become acceptable in Sodom and that really
provoked God's anger was homosexuality! This sin is sometimes
called "sodomy" because it described the sinful lifestyle of Sodom.
4*. When they did not
repent God's judgment of "fire and sulphur rained down from heaven
and destroyed them all." 5*.
Jesus said, "It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is
revealed." 6*.
Lot was saved because he heeded God's warning and left the
perversion of that wicked city.
But what about you? Are you ready and willing to forsake all the
wickedness, violence, immorality, corruption and evil thoughts
that our society seems to thrive on? Do you want to have God's
forgiveness and His power to live a life pleasing to Him? Only by
faith in Jesus as Saviour can you be rescued from sin and judgment.
7*.
Don't be like Lot's wife who still had a longing for the sinful
life of Sodom, and turned back. She was destroyed in God's
judgment! Jesus warns you and me today by saying, "Remember Lot's
wife!" 8*.
Jesus described how those who repent and have faith in Jesus as
their only Priest and Saviour will be carefully removed to the
safety of Heaven. "I tell you, on that night two people will be in
one bed; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be
grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left."
9*.
But you can be sure of this - God's judgment will find out everyone
who continues in their sin. Jesus illustrated it this way: "Where
there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."
10*. God's
judgment will come upon all the evil and rottenness of mankind!
Read Jesus' kind warnings in Luke 17, verses 24-37, and be sure you
escape from your sins to Jesus to receive His forgiveness and
victory over sin before God acts in wrath again!
